Buffalo born, Louisiana raised comedian/producer turned activist Kristen Becker returns to WNY. In her post pandemic stand up offering, “DYKOTOMY” Becker playfully explores the good and bad of both sides of the aisle, and leaves you wondering whether we really are that different after all. A twenty year veteran of standup comedy, she continues to skewer the status quo with her salty social commentary.
Once Touted Buffalo’s “Queen of Comedy” her rein in the city included founding the “Doin’ Time comedy” open mic at Nietzsche’s which led to her courting the owners (and serving as inaugural GM) of Helium comedy club into opening their Buffalo location in 2012. She was also named “Best Standup comedian” by Artvoice for 4 consecutive years, after harassing them for a few years to start that category.
Becker left the queen city once Helium was up and running to begin her “Loosen the Bible Belt” tour with Pastor Jay Bakker (yes, he is Tammy Faye’s son) Bakker and Becker toured the deep South offering a unifying voice to the discussion of religion and the LGBTQ community.
In 2017, Becker founded her Summer of Sass program (SoS), which is a summer work program for LGBTQ young adults. Queer applicants from all over the country apply to live and work in Provincetown mass, a well-established haven for the community. Over the past 5 years, her program has radically changed the life of young queers. More info at www.summerofsass.org
On top of all of that, she’s funny. Really funny.
